- LG Cancels Watch Urbane 2 LTE due to “Hardware Issue”: Points to LG for being vague with their newest smartwatch. The Urbane 2 was due to be the first mobile data-enabled Android Wear watch, but was canceled earlier this week by LG. LG cited a “complicated hardware issue that affects day-to-day functionality” as the reason for the product being indefinitely put off.
- PEPSI PUT OUT A PHONE: Everyone needs to take a step back and realize that that is a real headline I just typed out in this, the year of our lord 2015. The Pepsi Phone P1s was officially announced this week. We have no word on if it will ever see the light of day in North America, but the phone itself is selling for roughly $110 USD. Inside, the Pepsi Phone packs a 1.7 GHz Octa-core Mediatek processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB memory with expandable storage, a 13MP camera, and a 3000 mAh battery. All that is wrapped in a 5.5-inch screen with a fingerprint sensor. While this phone looks good, I’m personally holding out for a smaller form factor, Diet-P1s.
- The Nexus 5X has a screen problem while plugged in: Much like Drake, the Nexus 5x seems to not like to be touched when it’s charged up. Multiple users are reporting through both Reddit and XDA that the Nexus 5X touchscreen becomes unresponsive when plugged into the stock charger that ships with the unit. The issue is reproducible and has a growing thread on the product forums for google, so hopefully we’ll see a response to this sometime soon.
- Sony has released an Experimental AOSP Camera: The title says it all in this one. Sony custom ROM users have long lamented the fact that unlocking their bootloader meant losing the diverse camera features Sony provides on its Xperia line, but Sony released an experimental AOSP camera today for custom ROM developers. This has the potential to open up what custom ROMs can do with the camera, and hopefully provide better performance to those who enjoy tweaking their Xperia devices.
- Google is working to make Android TV a better, more viable option: People with Android TV devices will probably tell you they love them (myself included), but for the past year it’s seemed evident that Google was more focused on its Chromecast platform than the other, more fully-featured OS. PC World did a great interview with Allen Chang, lead product manager on Android TV, about what is coming for the platform. The whole interview is worth checking out, but the highlights include improving recommendations, building up live channels, implementing Netflix into their universal search, and working more features of Google Play Music into Android TV.
- Google wants to stream apps to your phone, sometimes: There has been a lot of news this week regarding Google’s plan to stream apps to your phone rather than having you download them all the time. The idea behind this concept is simple: if you’re looking to book a hotel once, for a vacation, you might not need a whole app downloaded on your phone. If Google could just stream the app via their search, for you to use once and then forget about, it may be more convenient than you seeking it out. On paper, this is a great idea, but many countries have data caps instituted that could present problems with doing this on the go. Let us know what you think about this idea in the comments below!
- Pushbullet: Let’s deal with the elephant in the room first for app news. This week, Pushbullet announced a new Pro pricing subscription model that left a lot of their users somewhat in shock. The pricing for Pushbullet pro sits at $4.99/mo, or $39.99/yr, and gives you what the company has deemed its “Pro” features. The reason for the uproar surrounding Pro is two-fold; many people feel that this is too steep a subscription price for the service, and many people are also upset that Pushbullet’s Pro features include some features that were previously available to non-paying customers. The changes include a 100-message response limit for free users, no action support on mirrored notifications for free users, and a loss of universal copy and paste for those unwilling to pay Pushbullet’s subscription price. If you’re interested, guzba from Pushbullet did an AMA this week where he attempted to address some of the questions people have surrounding the subject. With that out of the way, Pushbullet also enabled SMS syncing for android tablets this week, so Android tablet users will be able to sync SMS messages between their tablet and phone now.
- Snapchat is blocking root users: Snapchat pushed an update out for its app this weekend that performs several security checks and shuts the app down if any are found. The most controversial check for the enthusiast Android crowd has been that if Superuser is detected in the system, Snapchat will no longer work on your phone. This effectively blocks root users from using Snapchat, although the Xposed app Snapprefs apparently works with this update and allows you to continue using it as normal.
- GravityBox for Marshmallow released: What are you waiting for?? GravityBox is out for Marshmallow now. Go download it.
- Google Fit Features: Google Fit got a number of features announced this week via a blogpost on the official android blog. Google Fit now tracks your pace, route, elevation, and a number of other metrics when you go for your morning run. It also supports strength training; when paired with an Android Wear watch, you’ll be able to track push-ups, sit-ups, and more. It even includes integration with some of the most common fitness apps, so you can get a full picture of your fitness from a variety of apps. This update makes Google Fit worth having installed on your phone in addition to whatever workout tracker you may currently use.
- Google+ gets a new look: Google+ news that actually matters! The company’s social network got a visual overhaul this week, with a new focus on collections and communites. Rather than trying to be a direct facebook parallel, it appears this new direction for Google+ centers itself around bringing people interested in the same things together. You can follow or join anything that aligns with your interests, and talk with like-minded people. Is this update enough to get more people using Google+, or is it still too late for this social network?
- Play Store apps now have to declare if they have ads: This week, Google Play developers received an email notifying them that by January 11, 2016, they must update their app description to declare whether it contains ads or not. This is great news for users who want to know up-front what they’re getting into when they download an app.

Ashamed of my own game?
I'm having some strange feelings and was wondering if anyone has experienced it too.
Summer of 2013 is when I began teaching myself programming/game development and from then i've made dozens of small projects and learning projects and posted them to the Löve forums. I've learned a lot, but I still recognize that I have a lot more to learn.
Now last April I started working on a game for Android phones and It was supposed to be just something small to test out the Löve android port. But the project got bigger and I decided to try to release a fully made game on google play store.
Now it's been about 9 months and the game is finally complete. It was a lot harder than I anticipated making a fully functional game with credits/pause/menu/art/music and a ending.
When I began the project I was OK with showing people it around and all that, but now, after a long time working on it I almost feel ashamed and very insecure when showing it too people. I kinda think it took WAY too long for what it is, essentially a evolved version of flappy bird, with different gameplay and a kind of a story(has a beginning and a end.)
Only thing left too do for me is to make a .apk, wich will take time and upload it. But I almost don't have the will anymore to even do this step.
For this same reason I still haven't made a facebook page/post about my game because then most of my friends and family will see it and I fear they will compare it too mobile games they play that experienced teams of people have made. Those games are obviously a lot more polished and way way higher production values. I'm just one guy trying to make my first game.
EDIT: Wow, so many great replies! Thank you all! I am sorry for some errors in my writing, english is not my native language.
I haven't finished a .apk, it is a real pain doing it with the Löve port, you kinda have to do everything manually. But I will post my .love and a .exe for people to try it here now! The resolution is small because it is meant for phones, but it does have a scaling function(took a long time to figure that out...). Running it at like 1920x1280 is not optimal so I have the scaling disabled for non-phones.
LÖVE file: https://www.dropbox.com/s/osvyqnc26arwr6c/Duckentry.love?dl=0
Windows: https://www.dropbox.com/s/gb4i9qajm6exvlz/Duckentry.zip?dl=0 (just enter the zip and run Duckentry.exe)
The game: Duckentry is about a duck lost in space. How it came to be there is a mystery, but your goal is to guide it back to it's pond on Earth. When something comes back to earth its called re-entry and this is a duck doing just that, so its a duck-entry. The gameplay is split into 2 parts one with gravity and another without gravity.
I recognize that the game doesn't have that much of a fun gameplay, but it is short and has a mini-story to it. I know that the ending is really cheesy, but that is the best solution I could find. I am ready to be done with it and want to start work on something else! But I am proud of having finished it, especially after reading you'r comments!
I would also like to add that this is a hobby project, wanted to make it clear that I haven't been working 8 hours per day for 9 months on it! There were many short and long breaks where I did other stuff.
